There are several types of organs, with the pipe organ being the most common. The pipe organ is made of big whistles each tuned to a different note, and arranged on a mechanism which blows wind through them. Each of the keys on the organ’s keyboard is linked to one of the whistles or pipes, and pressing a key allows air to be blown through the whistle. Nowadays, most organs are electric but in the past, they would be operated by 2 people, one playing the organ and one working the bellows to provide wind.

What is An Organism? –

It is absolutely more fun eating at home.  Although, there is the sense that you will be waited on and treated like royalty, maybe, in a restaurant, if you eat at home you do not have to ‘dress up’ and will more likely use what you have on hand rather than spending more money for food in a restaurant.

If it is a holiday, a lot of fun is shared in preparing the food.  Maybe a new recipe is being shared and the look on the people’s faces that are sampling it is sometimes a lot of fun to watch – is it a hit or a miss?

Sometimes, children can be a handful if you decide to go out and eat, especially if it is for dinner.  They get finicky having to wait for their food and are just not relaxed around all the hubbub of a restaurant.

Now, eating at a restaurant can be fun.  Especially, if you are celebrating someone’s birthday, i. e., a co-worker or best friend.  However, their birthdays can also be celebrated at the office and at your home, according to how close you are to them and there won’t be the problem of running late from lunch because you had to wait for the food.

Most people work and when five o’clock arrives, they want to go home and shed the work clothes and just relax.  Sometimes, dinner is not so important unless there are children involved, but they can be satisfied with some hot soup and a sandwich some nights.  So can you.

People who are stay-at-home spouses generally cook the meal for the night which becomes a habit.  If they are like me, there is much sampling taking place during the cooking so when meal time comes, their hunger has been sated and the thought of getting dressed or more food is unheard of.

Couples who are celebrating an anniversary usually go out to celebrate but then, sometimes, they had rather stay at home and just enjoy each other, maybe ordering in.  This can be fun for most couples celebrating with a bottle or two of their favorite wine or champagne and this relieves them of the responsibility of driving home after imbibing.

The sampling while cooking is most fun.  One can tell you to put a pinch of this while another tells you to add a pinch of that and, after all is said and done, the dish turns into a hit recipe that stays in the family for a hundred years or so.

The relaxation of staying home and eating wins me over.  You feel you have to be on your best behavior when eating out and can’t run to the couch or bedroom for a quickie break like you can at home.  At least, that’s the way I feel.

Either way, food is food and we all love it.

This is a very simple, cheap and nourishing meal which is suitable for all seasons. I make a huge plateful just for myself and because it is so delicious, there are never any leftovers. I love it when the cheese begins to melt over the rice and vegetables. Try this…and savor every mouthful.

For two people you will need…….

1 tablespoon virgin olive oil
1 large peeled and roughly chopped onion
1 small garlic clove, peeled and crushed or chopped
4 baby sweetcorn cobs, cut into small disc-shapes
4oz button mushrooms, wiped clean and sliced or chopped
Large handful of green string greens, washed, topped, tailed and cut into small sticks
2 large ripe tomatoes, chopped coarsely (leave the cores in)
Half a teacupful of frozen peas, thawed
1 large pinch of dried basil
1 teaspoon tomato puree/tomato paste
1 crumbled vegetarian stock cube
2 or 3 strands of saffron (optional)
1 coffee mug full of risotto (arborio) rice – leveled off on top
2 coffee mugs full of cold water (same size coffee mug as for the rice)
Freshly grated Parmesan cheese to serve


In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil, then add the mushrooms, garlic, green beans, sweetcorn and onions. Fry until very well browned, then add the rice and fry for a further 2 or 3 minutes, stirring continuously. Then add the tomatoes, peas, basil, tomato puree/paste, stock cube, saffron (if used), and the water. Stir very well, combining all ingredients thoroughly, and bring to the boil – stirring occasionally.

When boiling, turn to a low simmer – cover the pan, and simmer for 20-25 minutes without stirring or removing the pan lid.

Remove the pan from the heat and leave to stand for 4 minutes with the lid on.
Remove the lid and fluff the mixture up with a fork. Serve with a green salad and freshly grated Parmesan cheese.

Just a reminder if you have leftovers for this risotto, please be very careful regarding food safety with re-heating rice dishes. Always make sure the leftover risotto is completely cold before refrigerating, and once refrigerated, eat within 24 hours. The risotto is very good re-heated in a microwave, just  make sure it’s thoroughly steaming, piping hot before eating. Enjoy!

Three ‘tricks’ I’ve learned when needing to eat or drink alone:

1. Befriend a waiter or barman – he will then happily ward off customers who’ve decided you’re desperate for their company, because he’ll see them as rivals. Better than befriending a waitress or “barmaid” because some pretentious men think they can then hit on both of you.

2. In a restaurant, ensure staff don’t remove cutlery or crockery from the other place laid at your table. Ask for an extra glass of water (yes, even Scots restaurants will provide water free if asked!), and site it opposite you. Spread ‘your things (magazines, cigarettes, even a man’s wallet or a sports paper) across the table. All designed to make it look as if you’re with someone who’s temporarily away.

3. If you’re alone in a bar (or “pub”), whether deliberately or because you’re early or have been stood up (yes it happens to us all), always buy TWO drinks at the bar and, if necessary, smile or shout “coming” at an empty space at the other end of the room.

All of those things help keep the vultures at bay.

Of course, if things get bad, there are more drastic measures.


When a man approaches, pick up your cell, pretend to dial, and say something along the lines of “where are you? I’m surrounded by extras from “The Hills Have Eyes II”. (Pause) Yes I know you’ll be able to beat them up for me, but be quick!”

(Adapt to fit the severity of the situation.)

Or, if you’re an extrovert who doesn’t mind how she’s seen, talk to yourself or pull faces to make it look as if you’re a dime short of a dollar.

Yes I know that not (quite) all of the dread of eating alone is down to men pestering you, but when you’re 22 and considered anything from “pretty” (ugh) to “stunning” (oh yeah? – I look like a man next to Mila Kunis!) then they seem to be responsible for 98% of the problems.

Of course, because of that, I rarely have to eat alone – but sometimes I choose to. And I know that males doing so do not have the problems with girls that I have with guys.

Which makes me mad!

I’m not alone in asking why guys think the only reason a girl goes out alone is to pick up a guy.

Madness, because the usual reason a girl is alone is because for once in her life she wants to be… alone.

I do love Southern fried chicken but I know that it is not the healthiest of food; however with this recipe I can serve ‘fried’ chicken to my family knowing that it is healthy and good for them as well as being delicious to eat. This is also a lot cheaper than visiting the local fast food shop as well as being a lot healthier.

I remove the skin from the chicken to reduce the maximum fat that I can from the recipe and I use crushed cornflakes rather than breadcrumbs for the coating.

This may not be exactly the same as the famous ‘Colonel Saunders’ secret recipe but it is certainly VERY good; I often serve it with sweetcorn pancakes, grilled bananas and jacket potato wedges for a traditional Maryland Chicken-type meal, and it is always very popular with all the family.

This recipe is perfect for anyone following a low fat or low calorie diet and tastes far naughtier for you than it is.


Serves 4


8 skinless chicken portions or 4 skinless, boneless chicken breasts
2 teaspoons dried thyme
2 teaspoons dried oregano
2 teaspoons dried basil

2 teaspoons dried parsley
2 teaspoons garlic powder
2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons fresh black pepper
1 large tub low fat natural yogurt
150g cornflakes, crushed finely.
Low fat cooking spray.


1. Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/gas mark 4
2. Put the parsley, thyme, oregano, basil, garlic powder, salt and pepper into a large strong plastic bag, shake well to combine together.

3. Add the chicken to the bag two portions at a time and shake to coat the chicken.

4. Continue until all the portions are coated in the herb mix.
5. Place the yogurt in a large bowl, and the crushed cereal on a large plate.

6. Dip each portion into the yogurt and then into the cereal.

7. Place the chicken portions onto a baking sheet sprayed with nonstick cooking spray.
8. Bake for 35 to 45 minutes until the chicken is brown and cooked through. Do not cover or turn the chicken during the baking process.
9. When the chicken is completely cooked, remove the baking sheet from the oven and allow the chicken to stand for around 10 minutes before serving.

This is a really tasty recipe and a fantastic way to serve chicken that tastes ‘naughty’ but is actually very good for you. It is also good served cold.

I am not expecting to take over from Colonel Saunders but my family all love this chicken.

There are only two ways of getting rid of moles and both of them involve a doctor or dermatologist performing an outpatient procedure. The first way is using a scalpel to scrape the mole down so that the wound is even or slightly below the skin.
